The “We Care” Lay Ministry met January 4th in the church parlor.  Yvonne Randel led the devotional entitled “Asking God Why.”

The group reviewed the activities of the previous month, including nursing home visits, packages to Afghanistan, Wednesday night letters and meals, and altar flowers distributed.  Members were encouraged to attend the February 1st meeting in which Katie Olson will be with “We Care” to discuss Basic Caring Ministries for Alzheimer Patients.  Others interested in this program are invited to attend the meeting at 1:30 in the Middleton Chapel.  The regular business meeting for the month will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the parlor prior to the Chapel meeting.

Members adjourned to the new home of Myra and Rayford Smith to honor them with a surprise housewarming and a blessing of the house by Pastor Jay Barnes.  Myra is a long time member of “We Care” and active in its ministry.  We wish them much happiness in their new home!

Our “We Care” Lay Ministry met September 14 for its monthly meeting.  Of particular concern to the group was the need to rework the prayer list that is distributed weekly in the church bulletin.  It was decided that in the future the prayer list will be available on our web site: www.fumclib.org.  It may be viewed daily, and a printed version will also be available in the narthex on Sunday morning.  It will no longer be a bulletin insert.

To submit a name for the prayer list, members may use the on-line form or may call the church office to submit a name.  Because of privacy issues, it will be necessary to have that person’s permission before placement on the prayer list.  The prayer list will now be restricted to FUMC members and their immediate families.

Special thanks to ministry member Dona Williams for her donation of bud vases and plastic pics for altar flowers sent to members and friends.

Hunger Buster successes were highlighted during the meeting.  Approximately four hundred and seventy-three meals a day were served to the children and youth of our community.  We are very appreciative of our members who participated in this effort and our Pastor Jay Barnes who assumed a leadership role throughout the project.

“We Care” continues to send care packages to our servicemen and women in Afghanistan.  We encourage our members to join in this effort.  If you are interested in participating, please call Mary Partlow at 336-5426 for more information.
